Module 4: Emptiness
with Andy Karr and Rhea Colmar
March 4 - April 8, 2027
Emptiness
This module explores the fundamental Mahayana teachings of shunyata through a progressive unfolding of understanding emptiness. Rather than leaving emptiness as a philosophical abstraction, students engage it directly through logical analysis, contemplations, and practical exercises that bring these insights into lived experience.
The curriculum moves through successive views of emptiness, from Shravakayana to Cittamatra, Svatantrika, Prasangika, and Shentong. Each stage refines how we understand experience, gradually loosening fixation and deepening insight.
Drawing on Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness and Contemplating Reality, the emphasis is on integrating these teachings so that emptiness becomes a direct and workable aspect of perception and practice.
