Module 3 • Mind Training

Lojong

This module introduces mind training, or lojong, as a set of practical guidelines for cultivating the wisdom and skillful means of the bodhisattva path. The slogans serve as pithy reminders that bring meditation off the cushion and into everyday life.

Students explore the four reminders, as well as ultimate and relative bodhicitta as they apply to the lojong teachings. Central to the module is the practice of tonglen (sending and receiving), which trains us to work directly with difficulty and deepen compassion.

The emphasis throughout is on using these teachings to transform obstacles into the path, relate to experience with greater clarity, and embody the bodhisattva path in the midst of ordinary life.
